TMGS Into 120 Years Excellence

“120 years of history is a very significant milestone for any institution. Over this period, thousands of young women have passed through the portals of this school - women who are now living in various parts of Malaysia or of the world; raising families, making invaluable contributions in their respective fields of work and leading meaningful lives. 

Today, we launch a series of activities to celebrate the 120 years of existence of TMGS. We celebrate the ten thousands of young women it has educated and nurtured. We celebrate the teachers who have served the school with dedication and commitment. Most of all, we celebrate the school, which has contributed immensely to nation-building,” said Dr. Teh Lay Choo before flagging off the participants for Cyclethon TMGS. 

As she spoke, we, students could sense that her heart gushed with pride and love. Why not? After all, how many education institutions can lay claim to the fact that they have produced excellent human capital for more than a century? How many schools have been through the long colonization years and still stand strong amidst all the changes that have come and gone? I know of one. It stands tall amidst lush trees in the serene town of Taiping - Treacher Methodist Girls School or in short, TMGS. 

To honour TMGS’s role in generating excellence, as I would like to put it, the school will be carrying out several activities. Marking the start of our 120^th anniversary celebrations was Cyclethon TMGS, held on 17 January 2009. The event was a huge success as students, ex-students, teachers and ex-teachers sportingly took part. If you have missed the event, do not fret for there are many more interesting activities lined up. 

In April, we will have our biennial Canteen Day or Food Fair. To all those out there, please do come and let us serve you with finger-licking good food plus lots of fun. Satisfaction is guaranteed and you will be back asking for more! Besides that, we will have an education seminar for the benefit of the students. We will also be organizing a Golf Tournament later this year. (Hey, whoever said that golf is only for the rich?) 

The annual Prize-giving Day and Co-curriculum Day will be held to reward students who have performed well academically and also those who were active in co-curricular activities. Such events help motivate students to excel in every field and to constantly strive for the best for the glory of TMGS.  

Come August, a Fund-raising Dinner will be held. This event will be the highlight of our 120^th anniversary celebrations. Trust me, you do not want to miss this dinner. You will be treated to scrumptious food, be updated on the school’s achievements and in the process, get to do your bit for TMGS. Your donations, no matter how insignificant they might seem to you, are very much appreciated. Indirectly, you are also investing in the future of nation-building. 

If you choose to hesitate and wait for our 125^th anniversary celebrations instead, be forewarned that five years is too long a period of time to wait. Furthermore, every good thing that ever happened, happened right now! So, what are you waiting for? Join us in the spirit of esprit de corps and TMGS Boleh!! as we celebrate TMGS and its 120 years of generating excellence.  

2009 will be an exciting year ahead. Hang on!
